Using LinkedIn in my Future Career

Image
Using LinkedIn in my Future Career As I start building my career in sales and marketing, I see LinkedIn as more than just a platform for students or job searching. Last week, I talked about how I can use LinkedIn as a student, but it is something I will continue to use long after college. It is a tool that will help me build my personal brand, grow my network, and create new opportunities throughout my career. One of the biggest reasons LinkedIn will matter to me long term is networking. In sales and marketing, relationships are everything. LinkedIn allows me to stay connected with professionals, coworkers and clients in a way that is both efficient and meaningful. Instead of losing touch after a meeting or job, I can continue to build those relationships over time. Whether it is engaging with someone’s post, sending a message or keeping up with their career, LinkedIn makes it easy to maintain those connections. Another way I plan to use LinkedIn in my career is to build my personal br...

Social Media Workshop

Image
Social Media Workshop This past week, I attended Ohio Northern University’s Social Media Workshop hosted by the Public Relations Student Society of America. As a member of PRSSA and a student in a social media class, attending this event was required, but it ended up being a really valuable and eye-opening experience. The day started in the Chapel with keynote speaker Caroline Schumacher, CEO of Give Kids the World. She spoke about leadership, personal branding and the importance of showing up with intention. One idea that stood out to me was that leadership is a decision. It is something you have to choose. She also explained that your personal brand is built through consistency and value over time, not by going viral or focusing only on aesthetics. Her message was inspiring and made me think more about how I present myself both online and in person. Throughout the day, I attended several breakout sessions that focused on different areas of social media and marketing. One of my favori...

Using LinkedIn as a Student

Using LinkedIn a s a Student As a college student, it is really easy to feel like your career is something you will worry about later. Between classes, homework and trying to have a social life, thinking about networking or jobs can feel overwhelming. But one of the simplest things you can do right now to set yourself up for the future is start using LinkedIn . At first, LinkedIn might seem like just another social media app, but it is actually way more useful than that. It is basically your online resume, but better. Instead of just listing your experience, you can show who you are. As a college student, you might not have a ton of job experience yet, and that is completely fine. You can add things like class projects, campus involvement, leadership roles and even group work. All of that shows skills that employers actually care about. One of the best parts about LinkedIn is how easy it makes networking. I know “networking” sounds intimidating, but it really just means connecting wi...

#SAMily

#SAMily From getting lost in a sketchy airport parking garage to being harassed about my goats to winning first place in a case competition, last week was definitely eventful. What started as a chaotic trip in Detroit turned into one of the most unforgettable experiences in Rhode Island. Along the way, I learned so much not just about business, but about the value of teamwork and stepping outside my comfort zone. Last Friday started early with packing before my 8 a.m. class. After class, my group met at the Dicke building and headed to the Detroit airport. The drive was smooth until parking. After circling for what felt like forever, we finally found a spot and made it inside. Our flight, originally scheduled for 1:35 p.m., was delayed multiple times until 4:55 p.m. Thankfully, we didn’t have anything planned that night, so arriving at the hotel around 8 p.m. wasn’t an issue. We grabbed dinner and went straight to bed. Thursday was packed with conference events at the New England Insti...

How Businesses Use Snapchat

Image
How Businesses Use Snapchat Snapchat is often overlooked in marketing, but it can be one of the most effective platforms for brands trying to reach younger audiences. With a strong Gen Z user base, Snapchat gives businesses a way to advertise that feels natural, engaging, and not overly sales-focused. One of the biggest advantages of Snapchat is its emphasis on authenticity. Unlike highly curated platforms, Snapchat content is meant to feel real and in-the-moment. For businesses, this creates an opportunity to show personality. Brands can share behind-the-scenes clips, quick product previews, or everyday moments that make them more relatable. This type of content often performs better because it feels genuine rather than overly polished, which is something younger audiences value more than traditional advertising. Another key feature is Snapchat Stories. Stories allow businesses to post photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours, creating a sense of urgency. This encourages users...

Exploring A New Passion Over Spring Break

Exploring A New Passion Over Spring Break From working a cheer competition to going to Norris Lake, I had a much-needed spring break. For the past few years, my boyfriend and I have spent spring break together. Last year, we went to Orlando, but this year we were not sure what to do. We originally wanted to travel to Florida, but because of our work schedules, it did not work out. To our surprise, his dad called and asked if we wanted to go to Norris after the competition, so of course we said yes. We were excited to have the opportunity to travel somewhere and not be stuck in Ohio during the week-long break.   We kicked off spring break by driving to Columbus on Friday for the competition. My boyfriend and I occasionally work weekends for his mom’s cheer company, CheerMax. While the days are long, I love it. My job is to manage and present awards to cheerleaders right after they compete, and I enjoy it because I get to engage with and motivate athletes from a variety of age groups...

The Many Ways Businesses and Nonbusinesses Use X

Image
The Many Ways Businesses and Nonbusinesses Use X Social media plays a major role in how organizations communicate today, and X, formerly Twitter, has become one of the fastest platforms for sharing information. With short posts and real-time conversations, X allows organizations to quickly reach large audiences. Because of its speed and accessibility, both businesses and nonbusiness organizations use the platform in many different ways, including marketing, customer service, advocacy and community engagement. One of the most common ways businesses use X is for marketing and brand awareness. Companies frequently post updates about new products, services, promotions and events. Since posts can be reposted and shared by users, businesses can reach a wide audience in a short amount of time. For example, a company might post about a product launch, highlight a seasonal sale or share photos of new merchandise. Hashtags also help increase visibility by making posts easier to find when users...
