Essentials of Social Media Marketing (Chapter 3) - Creating Social Media Content
Social media is used for a variety of different things. People use it for entertainment, education, research, communication, professional networking, advertising businesses and products, shopping, business writing (public relations), blogs, photography, and some even use it as their primary source of income. Content creation is "the act, process, or profession of making media for public consumption, especially digital media posted online." (dictionary.com). In early 2026, it was calculated that "25% of all social media users consider themselves influencers or content creators." (candyusa.com).
Typically, influencers create content on social media apps like TikTok and Instagram. Vlogging is common amongst influencers because of its authenticity, diverse trends, and relatability. Vlogging is also a great way to share trends, such as relatable content, tutorials, storytimes, GRWM (Get Ready With Me), DITL (Day-In-The-Life), morning/night routines, hauls, munkbangs, and more. The neatest part about social media is that one can build their algorithm (For You page) based on what they engage with and enjoy watching.
My favorite TikTok content to watch is GRWM vlogs combined with a storytime, as well as shopping hauls. I plan to start making different vlogs and build content on my TikTok and Instagram platforms. My dream is to become a micro-influencer and then become an influencer. In the future, I not only want to make entertaining content, but also educational content relating to my future career.
While using social media to become an influencer is fun, it can also be used in marketing jobs. It plays a significant role in business, and companies must present themselves well online through social media platforms. When pursuing a marketing and/or public relations career, one must continuously learn new skills and stay up to date with trends. Reading this chapter helped me understand the importance of creating content and keeping my social platforms updated and professional
Hi! I agree I love watching vlogs and GRWMs. I think it is fun to see what someone elses life is like. I agree that working in social media can be a lot more than being an influencer but that in order to do well in the field you must be up to date on all the trends and new tools. I also think that constantly being aware of what is happening in the world and learning new skills is also a challenge of the job.
