Being Your Own Brand

Being Your Own Brand

Anywhere you go, you will most likely be influencing someone. Whether it's in the way you carry yourself, the things you say, or the things you do. As creepy as it sounds, there will be many people throughout your life watching your every move. Some may notice the people you hang out with, the questions you answer in class, or even what kind of outfits you wear. The way you represent yourself is important, especially if you plan to work in the business industry.

As a new marketing student, I have already been working on how I approach myself to other people. Not in an overly people-pleasing way, but in a way where people do not have to try to guess the kind of person I am. I want people to know me by the good things I do, the things I am passionate about, and the goals I have set for myself. It is important for me
e to "be my own brand."

In chapter 2 of our reading, I learned a lot about what branding in business looks like. It talked about the importance of LinkedIn and the influence it has on someone getting a job. Making sure your LinkedIn profile is more than just a blank profile is important. The things and accomplishments you post are important. Your biography is important. Even the way you interact with other people's posts is important.

As a college student, my "brand" is who I am as a person and the things I associate myself with. Whether it's the people I hang out with or the clubs/organizations I am in. I am personally choosing the light of Jesus to be the center of my "brand", before everything else, because that is what I want to be known for. Then, I want my amazing friends to help represent who I am. And last, I want the clubs I am in to influence my brand. Since every person is different, your "brand" may look very different from mine, and that's okay! Everyone gets to decide who they want to be and what they want to be represented by, and college is a great time to learn.

  1. Hey Emma!
You said this beautifully and I loved your opening sentence! No matter where we are someone is always watching and looking up to us. I also learned a substantial amount of information from that chapter and what personal branding entails. We have the choice to create our personal brand and design it to be whatever, but it's important for it to be professional. I'm glad you touched on LinkedIn because that's a huge one! Great post!
