Podcasting with Amanda Todorovich
Podcasting with Amanda Todorovich
Yesterday, Aubrey Hattery and I had the fantastic opportunity to create a podcast with Amanda Todorovich. Through the podcast, I learned a lot about the world of marketing/public relations, and what I should be doing now as a student.
Amanda Todorovich graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2000 with a BA. She later received a master's degree in communications. She serves as an enterprise executive director of digital marketing at the Cleveland Clinic. Mrs. Todorovich expressed her love for her community by communicating and marketing to help people, not just to benefit the business.
Before we began the call with Mrs. Todorovich, Aubrey and I were somewhat nervous because we would be speaking with a professional. We then reminded ourselves that we had heard her speak to us before in LX-1 (Leader's Experience), and we began to grow more confident in speaking to her. Once we got past some technical difficulties, we began the podcast by introducing ourselves and thanking her for agreeing to film it with us. I then explained to her that we would ask her around 12 questions, 6 from Aubrey and 6 from me. Aubrey and I created questions by doing our own research and conducting what we wanted to know about Mrs. Todorvich's career.
Some of the questions we asked Mrs. Todorvich consisted of the following:
When you chose marketing, did you ever see yourself working in social media, like running the Cleveland Clinics website.
To which she answered, " No, and that she had received this role throughout her career without the initial intention of working in the healthcare industry.
When interacting with other media professionals, what tone do you recommend using? This came up during our industry tours in Cleveland, and we were recommended to keep a very professional tone, but I would love to hear your thoughts.
She stated the importance of using a professional tone with other professionals, but also of being genuine and getting to know their personality.
What is one thing you wish you had known sooner in your career?
She explained that she wishes she knew that things do not always go her way, and that it is okay to make mistakes. Especially within college.
What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to a college student pursuing a career in marketing?
She explained the importance of taking advantage of the tools and sources we have within college, by showing up to things. She stated that attending every speaker and event helps increase networking opportunities and boost confidence when talking to professionals.
I enjoyed hearing Mrs. Todorovich answer our questions and give us advice that will last a lifetime. As someone pursuing a marketing career, I learned a lot from what she had to say. She explained the importance of certain things that I never thought were important before. I would love to hear more from Mrs. Todorovich sometime in the future, and I recommend that every college student talk to a professional in their desired career.
Hi Emma! I really enjoyed working on this project with you. I remember being so nervous about asking her questions but I think we learned a lot about social media and AI. I think it was also really encouraging that we could hear about what it is like to start working in social media and that we can always learn from our mistakes.
