Exploring A New Passion Over Spring Break

Exploring A New Passion Over Spring Break

From working a cheer competition to going to Norris Lake, I had a much-needed spring break. For the past few years, my boyfriend and I have spent spring break together. Last year, we went to Orlando, but this year we were not sure what to do. We originally wanted to travel to Florida, but because of our work schedules, it did not work out. To our surprise, his dad called and asked if we wanted to go to Norris after the competition, so of course we said yes. We were excited to have the opportunity to travel somewhere and not be stuck in Ohio during the week-long break.

We kicked off spring break by driving to Columbus on Friday for the competition. My boyfriend and I occasionally work weekends for his mom’s cheer company, CheerMax. While the days are long, I love it. My job is to manage and present awards to cheerleaders right after they compete, and I enjoy it because I get to engage with and motivate athletes from a variety of age groups. I also love the job because it is the perfect side hustle for me during college. Most students would probably dread having to work at the start of spring break, but I actually looked forward to it.

On Sunday night, after we finished tearing down the competition, Kyler and I headed back home. Monday was a relaxing day spent catching up with my best friend while shopping and going out to eat. Tuesday was my birthday, so I spent the entire day with my family, which was especially nice since I had not seen them in a while.

On Wednesday, Kyler, his dad, and I drove down to their lake house on Norris Lake. We wanted to take the jet skis out, but it was not warm enough yet to dewinterize them for the summer. Instead, we spent our mornings relaxing on the balcony and enjoying the beautiful lake view. Our afternoons were filled with pickleball and golf, and our evenings were spent watching new movies and making cookies.

Golf was something that had always intimidated me because it is so different from any other sport I have played. But after going a few times with Kyler, I started to really enjoy it. Even though I am not very good yet, I realized golf is something I genuinely love. I may only be playing for fun right now, but I would love to get better at it one day. It also helps that Kyler is learning and practicing right alongside me.

Overall, my spring break ended up being the perfect combination of working, relaxing, and having fun! Going to the lake was definitely the highlight of my spring break, and it was a great way to celebrate my birthday. Although we were not able to do our favorite lake activity (jet skiing), I discovered a new passion. As cringey as it sounds, never be intimidated to try something new, because you might really enjoy it!
