My Easter Weekend
The best weekends are the ones with no plans, just going with the flow and seeing where things take you. My Easter weekend was very spontaneous, because the only thing planned was Easter morning and afternoon. I had the opportunity to catch up with my family, my church community and my best friend. I even went on a shopping spree, which left my bank account crying, but it was worth it.
Most people left on Thursday to start their Easter weekend since all classes were canceled on Friday. I was not able to leave early because I have a 6:30-9 p.m. class on Thursday nights. It did not make much of a difference, though, because I went home with my boyfriend on Friday morning. When I got home, my younger siblings, 7 and 10, ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug. My favorite part about coming home from college is surprising them, because they are always so excited to see me. It was also nice being able to catch up with my parents. Since my home is about two hours from ONU, I do not go back very often, which made the time even more meaningful.
On Saturday, I slept in until 1 p.m., which is really late, but it was much needed after the stress of college and months of early classes. I did not have anything planned for the day, but I wanted to do something other than just stay home. I decided to text my best friend, who I do not see much anymore, to see if she was free. She said yes and asked what I wanted to do, and I told her I was not sure yet. One good, and sometimes bad, thing about my best friend is that she is the definition of a Type B person. If I do not plan our hangouts, we usually do not get everything done that we want to. While I am typically a planner, it was nice to take a break from that, especially since I have been feeling burned out from classes. We agreed to hang out without a plan and just see where the day took us.
I picked her up, and we decided to get Dunkin’. Since we both slept in, it still felt like morning. After getting our coffee, we went thrifting. I was not looking for anything specific, but I ended up finding two really cute tops. Then we got hungry, so we went next door to El Rancho Grande. I tried something new and ordered birria tacos, and they were really good. We finished the day with Graeter’s Ice Cream and blasted music with the windows down on the drive back to her house.
Sunday morning, I woke up early to go to church and celebrate Easter. The service was really good, and it was nice being able to see my church community again. I have gone to the same church my entire life, so being back in a familiar place after living at college for eight months felt comforting. After church, my family and I went to my grandma’s house for Easter lunch, where we had a big meal. It was also great catching up with my grandparents, since I had not seen them in a while.
Unfortunately, I headed back to ONU on Sunday evening and started preparing for the week. Overall, I had a great Easter weekend. My only wish was to have one more day off from school.

Emma, sounds like you had a great relaxing weekend at home. Glad you were able to spend some quality time with friends and family.
