My Favorite Places to Study at ONU

Sometimes I struggle to focus in school, which makes studying way harder than it needs to be. Whether I am just not motivated or getting distracted easily, I usually have to force myself to actually sit down and get work done. One thing that has helped me a lot, though, is switching where I study instead of staying in the same place every time. I usually study two to three days before an exam, so that gives me time to go to a few different spots. Over time, I have realized that my two favorite places to study at ONU are Starbucks and the library.

My No. 1 spot is Starbucks. I am not going to lie, part of the reason is definitely because I can get a coffee or a snack while I study. But I also just really like the environment. I have two spots I always go to: the booths or the comfy chairs on the left side. If I have a lot of work that I need to sit at a table for, I will go to a booth. It is easier to focus there, especially when it is not super busy. But if I am planning to be there for a while on my laptop, I always go for the chairs. They are way more comfortable for longer study sessions. I also like that area when I am studying with friends because there is usually more space. Overall, I just like how Starbucks has different options, plus the food, drinks, and a good atmosphere.

My second favorite place is the library. I am already there a lot because I work in the Polar Career Center, but it is also where I go when I really need to lock in. Starbucks is more relaxed, but the library makes me feel like I actually have to get things done. Being around other people who are studying helps me stay focused. I also like that there are three floors, so I can choose where to go depending on how much I need to focus. If I really need to get a lot done, I will go to a third-floor study room and stay there for a few hours.

I do study in my room sometimes, but honestly, it is not my favorite. I get distracted way too easily when I am at my desk or near my bed. That is why having places like Starbucks and the library helps so much.

Overall, I have learned that where you study actually makes a big difference. And luckily, ONU has some really good spots that make it easier to get work done.
