Finding My Way Back to a Healthy Lifestyle in College

Image
Finding My Way Back to a Healthy Lifestyle in College Coming into college, I told myself I wanted to start working out more. At first, it felt like a simple goal. I thought I would naturally fall back into a routine once I got settled. But as the semester went on, I realized that staying active in college looks very different from what it did before. Growing up, I was almost always doing a sport. Practices, workouts, and games were part of my daily routine, so staying active never felt like something I had to plan or force myself to do. Exercise was just built into my life. I did not think about motivation because there was always a team depending on me and a schedule already set. Looking back, I realize how much that structure helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle without even noticing it. College changed that completely. Suddenly, no one was telling me when to work out or expecting me to show up. My schedule became filled with classes, homework, meetings, and social activiti...

Learning Time Management the Hard Way

Learning Time Management the Hard Way... When I first arrived at college, I thought I was good at managing my time. In high school, I stayed busy with classes, activities and friends, and everything usually worked out. My days were structured, and deadlines felt manageable. Because of that, I assumed college would not be much different, just more homework and harder tests. I learned pretty quickly that I was wrong. At the start of the semester, my schedule actually looked easy. Some days, I only had two classes, which made it feel like I suddenly had a lot of free time. Instead of using those open hours to get ahead, I treated them like extended breaks. After class, I would go back to my dorm, relax, scroll on my phone or hang out with friends. I kept telling myself I would do my homework later. Later usually turned into late at night. For the first few weeks, this did not seem like a problem. Assignments were small, deadlines felt far away and nothing felt overwhelming. Then every...

Facebook Is Not Only Used By Old People

Facebook Is Not Only Used By  Old People Essentials of Social Media Marketing (Chapter 4) Have you ever heard the “Facebook is for old people” stereotype? While many older adults use it more than other social media platforms, Facebook is still widely used by people of all ages. Facebook remains the largest social media platform in the world. It was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. According to Exploding Topics ( https://explodingtopics.com/blog/top-social-media-platform ), 3.2 billion people use Facebook each month, representing about 37% to 40% of the world’s population. As a young adult, I was surprised to learn that nearly half of the world actively uses Facebook. Today, Facebook is used by both personal users and businesses. Most people use Facebook for their own interests and hobbies. Some use it as a main source of entertainment, while others read news, create content, stay connected with family and friends, buy and sell items through Facebook Marketplace, plan events or j...

The Importance of What You Post

Image
The Importance of What You Post This week in my social media class, we did something different than what we usually do, and it taught me a lot about responsibility. Typically, our homework is to read a chapter from Essentials of Social Media Marketing and then write a blog post about it. I am used to that routine, and while it helps me understand the material, trying something new is always fun. This week, we did a simulation in which we took on the role of a social media manager for a company, rather than just reading about it. The simulation is split into rounds, and this week we just finished the first one. I am not going to lie, I did not do the greatest. At first, I felt kind of disappointed after reading the instructions. But once I looked at my results and thought about what happened, I realized that actually doing something is way different than just learning about it. In the simulation, every little decision mattered. We had to decide things like which platform to post on, h...

The Never-Ending Alarm

Image
The Never-Ending Alarm My Tuesday night this week was just like any other. I had dinner at Mac with my friends and went back to my dorm to do homework. Tuesdays are usually laid back since I only have one class, so I use them to rest and prepare for the rest of the week. After finishing my homework and scrolling on my phone, I took a shower and got into bed around 11:00, which is usually the latest I stay up on weekdays. Unlike most nights, though, I couldn’t sleep. I lied in bed restless for hours, unable to grow tired enough to fall asleep. 11:00 quickly turned into 1:00 before I finally fell asleep. While I was sleeping, I had the most amazing dream about being at the beach. Since I live in Ohio and it’s February, I can only dream about that right now. In my dream, I was lying in the sand, waves crashing, a piƱa colada in my hand, when all of a sudden I heard… BEEP BEEP BEEP. That was definitely not part of my typical beach dreams. The absurdly loud noise woke me up, and I realize...

Podcasting with Amanda Todorovich

Image
Podcasting with Amanda Todorovich Yesterday, Aubrey Hattery and I had the fantastic opportunity to create a podcast with Amanda Todorovich. Through the podcast, I learned a lot about the world of marketing/public relations, and what I should be doing now as a student.  Amanda Todorovich graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2000 with a BA. She later received a master's degree in communications. She serves as an enterprise executive director of digital marketing at the Cleveland Clinic. Mrs. Todorovich expressed her love for her community by communicating and marketing to help people, not just to benefit the business.  Before we began the call with Mrs. Todorovich, Aubrey and I were somewhat nervous because we would be speaking with a professional. We then reminded ourselves that we had heard her speak to us before in LX-1 (Leader's Experience), and we began to grow more confident in speaking to her. Once we got past some technical difficulties, we began the podcast by int...
